First Year Applicants

Georgetown offers students the opportunity to apply in one of two application plans: Early Action or Regular Decision.

Regardless of which option you choose, we encourage you to begin your application using either the Georgetown Application or the Common Application as soon as possible.

Application Process and Requirements

Choosing your Academic Program

Applicants are required to apply directly to one of Georgetown’s six undergraduate schools.

Application Deadlines

Georgetown offers two application deadlines:

Early Action: November 1
Regular Decision: January 1

Early Action Policy

Georgetown’s Early Action policy is non-binding, allowing admitted students to freely choose among their college options until the May 1 decision deadline.

Early Action applicants to Georgetown must abide by the following guidelines:

Early Action applicants to Georgetown may not apply to any binding Early Decision programs.
Early Action applicants to Georgetown are welcome to apply to other non-binding Early Action programs.

Beginning the Application Process

Students can apply to Georgetown using either the Georgetown Application or the Common Application.

Georgetown encourages students to submit their application as soon as it is complete.

Early submission allows interviews to be assigned sooner, giving applicants greater flexibility and more time to coordinate with their alumni interviewer.

Because alumni interviews may be scheduled before the Writing Supplement is submitted, students are encouraged to submit their application once the initial portion is complete.

The Writing Supplement will then need to be submitted by the selected application deadline.

Alumni Interview Process

Alumni Interviews are a key part of Georgetown’s application process, allowing us to learn more about students’ high school experiences, college goals, and interest in the University.

Alumni interviews begin in September each year and continue throughout the application cycle.

For students applying with the Georgetown Application, interviews can be assigned after submission of Part 1 of the Application.

For students applying with the Common Application, interviews can be assigned after submission of Georgetown’s initial portion of the Common Application (not including the Writing Supplement).

Completing the Georgetown Writing Supplement

Georgetown requires:

Two short essays
Two long essays

A full list of essay questions can be found on the Application Requirements and Forms page.

For students applying through the Georgetown Application, all four essays will be submitted through the Georgetown Application Supplement.

For students applying through the Common Application, all four essays will be available in the Writing Supplement.

Georgetown does not require the Common Application Essay.

Standardized Testing Policies

Georgetown requires submission of either SAT or ACT scores as part of the application process.

For students taking the ACT, we highly recommend taking the Science section, especially if planning to major in the sciences.

For students who have taken AP exams, we highly recommend submitting these scores as part of the application process.

Georgetown requires submission of official standardized test scores.

Supplemental Materials: Performing Arts (Optional)

We hope you are able to convey your talents and extracurricular activities in your application.

However, applicants with exceptional talent in the performing arts who wish to pursue those interests on campus may submit an additional Performing Arts supplement as part of their application.

All Performing Arts materials are reviewed by the Department of Performing Arts, and therefore we cannot confirm receipt of submitted materials.

If you would like your performing arts talent to be considered as part of your application, please follow the instructions provided on the Performing Arts website.

Application Updates

Once your entire application has been submitted, you may provide updates through the Application Change Form.
